Inflamed blood vessels in or around the anus and rectum are called hemmoroids. They are not life endangering, however, they are distressing. Usually they will clear up in several days. But sometimes they don’t. In this case, you should see a doctor.
The most common cause of having hemmoroids develop is by sitting for long periods of time. Sitting puts pressure on the veins in the rectum and anus, and is made worse if you are overweight. A hemroid is formed when too much pressure is place on the rectal region. This leads to the veins becoming inflamed and irritated. Excessive straining during bowel movements is another cause of hemmoroids forming.
High tension can also begin the process and high blood pressure will definitely escalate. Pregnancy often leads to hypertension, which then leads to hemmoroids. Not drinking enough liquids, and poor nutrition, especially diets that are low in fiber will cause hard stools, which are hard to pass. This also causes irritation or damage to the rectal veins, thus causing constipation – leading to a hemroid.
As far as prevention goes, there are a few things that you can change in your diet to help prevent hemmoroids. Keeping well hydrated can make sure everything moves along smoothly, thus preventing constipation. Making sure you get enough fiber either from whole grains, vegetables and fruits or dietary supplements can also help. Keeping yourself in good health overall is also a good way to discourage the formation of hemmoroids.
Being heavy and overweight can be a problem. If you can lose some weight, you can relieve or even prevent hemmoroids from forming. If you must sit for long periods of time for work, then it is recommended that you get up and stretch periodically. Its also a good idea if you exercise regularly, not only to prevent a hemroid from developing, but just to be in good health. Many people forget these very basic things, even tho they seem to be common sense.
In addition to regular exercise, performing Kegel exercises can also prove beneficial in keeping hemmoroids at bay. These exercises flex and strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor. Strengthening these muscles provides better muscle tone and better circulation in the entire region.
Another preventative measure for keeping hemmoroids away is one that is less known by most folks. This is a Squat Toilet. Most Western nations use seat toilets instead. But by using a seat toilet puts pressure on the anal veins where a hemroid can form. Squat toliets put no pressure on these veins and thus the incidence of hemmoroids who use these toilets is extremely low.
Having a hemroid can be extremely painful. Usually they will clear up on their own in a few days by themselves. Bowel movements will be somewhat painful as well during this period because of the irritated and sore surrounding area. Preventing painful hemmoroids is pretty easy; if you remember to eat properly, exercise regularly and avoiding unnecessary straining. If your hemroid does get worse however, do go to your doctor.
